Because Quotes Are Like a Lay's Potato Chip...

...you get not just one, and not just ten, but thirteen of my favorite quotes.  These are mile-markers of my last year: some marking times of tears, some stubborn sin, some silliness, and some the most profound truth that I've yet known.

{If it were possible for C.S. Lewis to be over-quoted, I could be accused of such an infraction.  But since he can never be over-quoted, I will merely hope you enjoy him as much as I do!}

When I read this last quote, I picture Corrie Ten Boom remembering being huddled in her Nazi concentration camp cell, awaiting her own death.  I picture her saying this because of that remembrance, and I am humbled.

What quotes have changed your perspective?

  1. This may seem nit-picky, but as the granddaughter of Holocaust survivors, I think it's important that people are correctly informed of their history. "Death camp" refers to a specific subset of concentration camps created for mass extermination rather than just imprisonment or forced labor. (That is not to say that people didn't die in large numbers in "regular" concentration camps.) Ten Boom was in concentration camps, not a death camp.

    1. Anon--you are absolutely right. I actually meant to double check this term while editing and forgot. I have updated the post--thanks for your passion for correct history! What is your grandparent's story? My Great-Grandma survived German labor camps and immigrated to America after the war.

  3. "The hottest places in Hell remain for those, who in times of great moral crisis, maintain their neutrality."

    Always been an encouraging quote for me - TAKE A STAND for good, act with courage.

    1. That is a fabulous quote! It reminds me of another favorite by William Wilberforce: You may choose to look the other way but you can never again say you did not know.
